​The Witch's Garden

Gardens are as varied as the Witches who tend them- be it an amazing array of potted plantings on a balcony or a field of wildflowers- the most important aspect of your magickal garden is that it feeds your soul.   
Gardening is way to help understand that our connectivity with nature is truly a symbiotic one- We lovingly tend to the earth to grow our own food, which in turn helps sustain us.  Flowers, shrubs, trees or water features that we add to our landscapes are not only beautiful, but provide food, water and shelter for other creatures, attract pollinators, and provide oxygen.
 As magickal practitioners you may notice more faerie activity.  The blessing of nature spirits are abundant when we are in sync with our natural surroundings.    Being in contact with the earth has calming effects that may lower stress and help improve sleep. Magickally, being in the garden helps to balance and equalize the flow of energy and avoid negative side-effects unbalanced energy can have on your spell-work.  Plunging your witchy hands into the soil is a great earthing technique- in fact, recent studies show that there is a soil microbe called Mycobacterium vaccae which has the same mood enhancing effect as anti-depressants.    
 Growing your own magickal herbs means you can take pride in the knowledge that you cultivated your magickal ingredients yourself.  You know what what went into the cultivation of your garden- everything from the compost that the seeds are propagated in- to the astrological timing of when they were sowed and the moon phase of when the plants were harvested is all under your control and contributes to, not only the success of your plants, but to the success of your spell crafting.

    Within each of us lies the seeds of hope for a better way- cultivate them so that others may know the importance of sustainability and keep true the responsibility of this beautiful planet we inhabit. 

•           Slow down- take time to delight in the Goddess as the wheel-of-the -year turns slowly, but surely- never ceasing.  Celebrate the little things in life- the scent of rain on new spring foliage, the newborn sun at Yule, or the first tinted leaf that falls on a brisk autumn morning.  Relish the sound of silence.    
•           Teach your children to appreciate their own beautiful souls as they, in turn, learn to appreciate the differences of others.  Remember, the rose doesn’t try to out-blossom the tulip- they just bloom and we are better for it. 

•    Keep your hands close to the soil.  Share the secrets of our agricultural past with the gift of a seed.  Create your own tea-blends and sip slowly from china cups as the wind tickles the wind-chimes and whispers ancient teachings. 
•  Lastly, never forget that you are never too old to make faerie houses, blow dandelion wishes or to climb a favorite old tree.  And most definitely- remember to dance under a full moon with your family!
